The Arts Building carries a sculpted GFRC facade across its street elevations. Our scope is the fabrication drawing set: we take the architect’s general-arrangement and elevation drawings and resolve them into a panelised system that can be molded, cast and hung on site.

Every panel is rebuilt as an exact 3D model before any drawing is issued. The model carries the real panel breakup, the joint and shadow-gap logic, and the steel behind each unit, so the drawings that come out of it are the drawings the shop and the site actually build from.

Analysis

We read the issued architectural set, establish the facade zones and the panel-joint grid, and agree the movement and tolerance strategy with the design team before any modelling begins.

Design

The elevation is rebuilt as an exact 3D model. Panels are broken to castable, transportable sizes; connections, shadow gaps and returns are resolved so the built wall reads as one continuous surface.

Development

From the signed-off model we produce the fabrication drawings, mold drawings and installer drawings, along with the panel schedule the casting yard and the site team work to.

GFRC cladding panels

Each unit is a thin GFRC skin carried on a concealed steel frame, sized so it can be cast, cured, transported and lifted as a single piece. Panels reach full storey height where the elevation calls for it.

  • GFRC skin cast against the mold face for a finished architectural surface
  • Backing steel frame with cast-in connection points
  • Gravity and restraint fixings set out for the site steel

Frame configuration

The panel frames combine hot-rolled and light-gauge steel members: the heavier profile takes the load back to the structure, while the lighter framing shapes the panel and picks up the GFRC skin.

Drawings production

The drawing production is driven from the model, not drawn by hand. Panel marks, dimensions and schedules update from the geometry, which keeps the fabrication set, the mold set and the installer set consistent with one another across revisions.
